Albion's predecessor was founded in Belfast in the year 1896. By 1900 the company was incorporated into a limited liability company. It had also grown from the original 20 or so machinists into a company employing more than 600 people.
In 1901 the decision was taken to expand the horizons of the company to include England, and as Leeds was rapidly becoming recognised as the centre of the Clothing Industry in England, Leeds it had to be.
In 1938 both founders died yet the company carried on with the same families managing the business. New factories were built both in Ireland and in England. Capital, turnover and profitability all increased. The original business became a Public Limited Company with its shares listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1965.
Over the last ten years it was evident to the board of directors that with the increase in world travel and the ease at which it was becoming, offshore manufacturing would soon become more efficient in a labour intensive industry such as tailored menswear. Although it was a difficult decision the company decided to move all of its manufacturing facilities offshore. This foresight helped the company survive during a very difficult period in textiles.
Albion Ltd is well positioned to meet the demands of the future. Much of the success in achieving this position is the result of the support the company receives from its customers, suppliers and employees, who have been willing and quick to acquire new skills in a fast changing and internationally competitive market place.
A recent restructuring has meant that the company is now looking beyond the field of tailored menswear. In November 2007 Albion Limited took on the running of the business and an increase in investment from the parent company will allow Albion to achieve it's goals.
